Chain Marking Ribbon

Back to the Future. The original chain length markers were pieces of ribbon tied to the anchor chain. For some reason these were replaced by expensive plugs. These are complex and expensive. RTM has gone back to the original way of doing things. We have introduced a packet of coloured polyester ribbons to mark how much your anchor chain has been deployed. We supply a pack of 6 pieces of ribbon 100mm long. We suggest you use as follows:
Every 5 or 10 metres of anchor chain (depending on how big your boat is) you securely tie a ribbon to the chain link.
5 – 10 metres from anchor – Blue
Next 5 – 10 metres – Yellow
Next 5 – 10 metres – Green
Next 5 – 10 metres – White
Next 5 – 10 metres – Red
You should then have some anchor rope which should be at least as long as your chain. The last ribbon (Black) should appear when you have 10 metres of rope LEFT in the rope locker. Thread through the rope like a splice. (Also make sure that the end of your rope is tied off inside the rope locker)
You may not need all the ribbons (for say a small boat) but the ribbons are more flexible than plugs.
